Neurofeedback for Nurses

Nurses are central to keeping our healthcare systems running smoothly, administering treatment to patients, and protecting community welfare. Their dedication to healthcare comes with long hours, exposure to numerous hazards, and larger workloads. On top of this, nurses were pillars of support during the COVID-19 pandemic, and many still remain emotionally and physically burnt out from managing this crisis. These tolls can worsen fatigue, anxiety, and symptoms of PTSD and depression. Supporting the mental health of nurses is vital in maintaining their emotional well-being, resilience, and ability to heal the members of our community.

Unique challenges facing nurses

The mental health of Nurses often takes a toll from the numerous stressors of the job. Working in a fast-paced environment, where hours are long and the list of tasks continues to grow, may lead to burnout. As frontline workers, nurses are often exposed to stressors, such as workplace violence and traumatizing cases, which can lead to depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety, and sleeping issues. Still, nurses have to remain vigilant and keep up with the demands of the job for often lengthy shifts, which increases the risks of chronic fatigue and psychological distress. These mental and physical challenges can compound if untreated.

The stressful work schedule, unique challenges, and pressure to provide high-quality care must be addressed with appropriate, personalized support to ensure that nurses can continue to deliver effective care without sacrificing their well-being.

Current Treatment

Options

Medication and counselling may be effective for many people, but what if therapy and medication are not making a difference? Some nurses do not want to be on medication, and others have tried talking about their problems and may want another option. After repeated exposure to trauma and stress, the brain can feel “stuck” and “locked” in patterns of hypervigilance, avoidance, or numbness despite consistent effort. For these nurses, Neurofeedback offers a non-invasive approach that trains the brain to be more regulated. It can help guide the nervous system toward being calmer and more flexible. Over time, this can support improved sleep, focus, and resilience, complementing, or for some, offering an alternative to, medication and counselling alone.

OUR SERVICES

Book your free 15-20 minute phone consultation

Talk to a director over the phone to explore if Neurofeedback training as an option to help support your needs.

We start off with a Clinical Intake Interview. This is where we review background, medical, and developmental history, your symptoms and their severity, major life events, and do our best to conceptualize the uniqueness of your case.

qEEG Brain Mapping Assessment

The next step is a non-diagnostic Quantitative Electroencephalogram (QEEG) baseline recording. Just as a stethoscope is placed on your chest to listen to your heartbeat, electrodes are placed on your scalp to record your brainwave activity. This helps us establish a baseline of your brainwave activity and helps us decide the areas and metrics to include in your personalized Neurofeedback training plan.

Custom Program Creation

Using the information from your clinical intake interview, baseline recording, and intake package, we create a tailored Neurofeedback training program to address your needs and help you accomplish your goals.

Debrief/Feedback Session

Finally, we discuss the results with you to clarify the metrics and brainwave patterns involved in your program, and answer your questions before you begin Neurofeedback training.
